Philanthropy From a Donor’s Perspective: Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
What inspires a donor about philanthropy? Do donors value mission and value statements? How do donors like to be thanked? What criteria do donors expect an organization to meet before making a planned gift? How are donor relationships established? What fundraising approaches do donors dislike? Join us at this Planned Giving Council of NH & VT program where the answers to these and other questions will be provided by a panel of donors from New Hampshire and Vermont. The panel will be moderated by Robin Abbott, Director of Gift Planning for the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. There will also be an opportunity for the panel to take questions directly from anyone attending the program.

Why, and How, to Pursue Real Estate Gifts During Challenging Economic Times
Presented by Dennis Bidwell, principal of Bidwell Advisors
As gifts of cash and appreciated securities remain hard to come by, more and more development professionals, especially planned giving professionals, are turning their attention to the single largest asset category for many of their donors, their real estate holdings. This presentation will profile the likely real estate donor and the typical real estate gift during these times. Trends and best practices regarding real estate gifts will be featured. Real estate gift structures that make particular sense during these times will be highlighted. The presentation will conclude with a review of the practical steps being undertaken by non-profits that have succeeded in attracting substantial real estate gifts during these challenging times.

The Nonprofit Sector Faces Adulthood: Where Do We Go From Here and How Does Planned Giving Play a Critical Role?
Presented by Stuart Comstock-Gay, President & CEO of the Vermont Community Foundation
With shrinking government support, donors who feel tapped out, increased competition, states that lag national giving levels, and a struggling economy, the nonprofit sector is being called on to do more, with fewer resources. Comstock-Gay will discuss the questions that confront us today, the challenges of tomorrow, strategies that are showing some promise, and approaches that are being tested, with an eye on sustainability in this new and confusing environment. Front and center in the future work is wider implementation of planned giving.
